Men's basketball team hands Florida Southwestern first loss

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team pulled out an 86-82 win in a battle of top-10 teams in the nation Saturday night in the JUCO Shootout in Gainesville.

The No. 7 Titans used a balanced attack to defeat No. 10 Florida Southwestern to win their 11th straight game and improve to 12-1 overall.

Eastern Florida State College was up 10 points at the half but Florida Southwestern came back and took the lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. But the Titans picked things up to get the win.

Sophomore Eli Abaev recorded a double double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while teammate Michael Nuga also had 19 points. Ahmed Ali finished with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists while Nathanael Jack and Jalen Warren each had 11 points.

Tyler Cheese scored 34 points for Florida Southwestern as they fell to 10-1.

Eastern Florida State College will play No. 22 Chipola College at 7 p.m. Sunday in the final game of the JUCO Shootout.
