Men's basketball team outruns Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team used a 20-0 run in the second half to get past Miami Dade 122-102 Monday night in the home opener at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half and Miami Dade had an eight-point lead at one point but the Titans came back and went into the locker room with a 53-52 lead led by Ahmed Ali who had 17 points in the first half.

But Ali and Michael Nuga took off in the second half combining for 45 of the team's 69 second-half points as the Titans improved to 7-1 on the season.

"We knew it would be a high-scoring affair but I don't know if we knew it would be this high scoring affair," Eastern Florida State men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "First half I thought we left a lot on the table … second half, I am proud of our guys, we responded coming out of halftime. We came out motivated and ready to go."

Both guards finished with career highs as Ali led all scorers with 39 points and Nuga finished with a career high 29 points, 23 of them coming in the second half.

Eli Abaev and Shaq Carter each finished with 11 points as the Titans scored a season-high 122 points. It is the second time this season the Titans have scored more than 110 points.

Miami Dade fell to 6-3 but did score over 100 points for the ninth straight time this season led by Kaevon Tyler's team-high 23 points.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to ASA Miami on Nov. 29 before returning to Titan Field House Dec. 1 and 2 for the Jim Grimes Classic.
