Titan men's basketball team plays for Southern Conference title Tuesday night

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team can lock up a fifth straight Southern Conference championship on Tuesday night.

The Titans have won the conference title in each of the past four seasons and hold a one-game lead on Palm Beach State heading into the regular-season finale Tuesday night against Miami Dade College.

"It's definitely a good feeling knowing we have a chance to lock up the conference title, we are really excited," sophomore Austin Awad said. "We were talking about it and we just really want to go out and have fun. Winning the conference title doesn't just happen tomorrow night, it has been a long season and we are ready to cut down those nets."

Awad, Kareem Brewton and Joan Duran will also be playing in their final game at Titan Field House Tuesday night and will be honored after the game.

"Sophomore Night is really exciting, we only have three sophomores and we are as close as can be so it is exciting that we have this final game, it is our last home game together and it is really exciting to get one last night to play on the home floor with those guys," Awad said.

The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and be televised live on WEFS-TV and online at efsctitans.com/webcast. The Titans have beaten Miami Dade in the first two meetings and the team is expecting another fast-paced game Tuesday.

"They like to press, they will press us all game and it will be a fast-paced game and that is how we like to play. It should be a high-scoring, fun game," Brewton said. "The conference title is Mission One. Mission Two is winning a state title. We have to win Tuesday and cut down the nets. After that, we have to go win states and then go back to nationals and win nationals for the first time."

Admission to the game is free.
