Men's basketball team tops Indian River State College in OT

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team knew this was going to be a battle from the start and it lived up to the hype as the Titans came away with a huge 90-85 overtime road win against Indian River State College Wednesday night.

"To come in here, on the road in a conference game and get win No. 24, just so proud of our guys," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said.

The win keeps the Titans in a tie for first place in the Southern Conference with a 10-3 record with two games remaining in the regular season.

And they did it behind a strong night from sophomore Joan Duran who had a season-high 27 points including the basket to send the game to overtime.

Indian River State College came out shooting and took an early 10-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. But the Titans responded with a 10-2 run to take a one-point lead into halftime. Like the Pioneers in the first half, Eastern Florida came out in the second half and went on a 9-0 run to take a 10-point lead of their own. But Indian River State College responded with a 12-2 run to things back up.

Willy Nunez, who finished with a game-high 28 points, had a chance to win the game in regulation but his 3-pointer bounces out and in the overtime, Eastern Florida State College went on one final run behind Duran and Ahmed Ali to seal the win for the Titans.

"Every possession, we kept our composure and we buckled down and made a stop to send it to overtime," Shulman said. "We showed some toughness tonight."

Shaq Carter had another big game as well, scoring 17 points while Ahmed Ali added 16 and Kaleel Solomon had 10 in the win.

The Titans (24-4, 10-3) will travel to ASA Miami on Saturday before hosting Miami Dade on Tuesday night for Sophomore Night at Titan Field House.
