Titan men's basketball team loses to Palm Beach State

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost at home for the first time in 20 games, falling to Palm Beach State 82-77 in a Southern Conference game.

Palm Beach State came out shooting and held a nine-point lead with five minutes remaining, but the Titans stormed back with a 13-5 run ending with an Ahmed Ali 3-pointer to go into the locker room down one, 34-33.

But the Panthers came out in the second half and once again built a solid lead and had an 11-point lead with three minutes to go before the Titans went on one final run, cutting the lead to a basket with under a minute to play. Palm Beach State hit the free throws and put themselves in position to win the Southern Conference. The two teams are both now 8-3 in the conference with the Panthers holding the tiebreaker.

It was the first conference home loss for the Titans since the 2011-2012 season.

Kareem Brewton scored 25 of his 35 points in the second half, leading the Titans back into the game down the stretch. Teammate Joan Duran finished with 11 points.

Palm Beach State's Josh Wallace finished with 26 points, 24 coming in the second half while Travis Weatherington had 20 points, 17 coming in the first half.

The Titans, now 22-4 overall, will be on the road for the next three games beginning with a trip to Broward College on Saturday afternoon.
