Men's basketball team heads to Indian River State for conference matchup

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team will travel to Indian River State College in an early battle for first place in the Southern Conference Tuesday night.

The matchup of 2-0 conference teams will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

Indian River State College comes into the game 11-4 and on a four-game win streak. The Pioneers are one of the top rebounding teams in NJCAA Division I, averaging 50.3 rebounds per game as six players average at least four rebounds per game. Willy Nunez leads the team in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game.

"We have a very tough schedule, to start at Broward and then play Palm Beach and now three on the road beginning with a really good Indian River team is tough," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "These next few games are going to be huge for us."

The Titans, who are 16-1 on the season and have won 11 in a row will travel to ASA Miami and Palm Beach State before returning home Jan. 21 to host Miami Dade.

Kareem Brewton leads the team offensively, averaging 22.4 points per game which is second-best in Region 8 while Ahmed Ali comes in averaging 17.2 points, hitting 49.5 percent of his 3-point shots this season.
