Titans men's basketball team defeats TAAG Academy

Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team opened things up in the second half, scoring the 100-80 victory over TAAG Academy Wednesday night at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

TAAG Academy was a little more than an hour late arriving but was not slow on the court, staying with the 12th-ranked Titans throughout the first half.

But Eastern Florida came out of the locker room for the second half and sprinted out to a 17-point lead behind some big 3-point shots from Austin Awad who finished the game with 19 points, 14 coming in the second half.

"I thought our energy was really good in the second half," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "Eli Abaev got the start and was a real spark for us tonight. And Kareem was Kareem, Austin was Austin again tonight."

Kareem Brewton continued his strong play, leading the Titans with 27 points. Noah Horchler finished with 11 points as 11 different Titans scored in the win.

"It was a trap game for us, coming home from a big weekend in New York and preparing for another big weekend at Santa Fe but I thought we played with a lot of energy and took care of business," Shulman said.

Eastern Florida improves to 10-1 on the season and has a big weekend ahead of them, facing Florida Southwestern on Saturday and No. 4 Northwest Florida State on Sunday in the Florida JUCO Shootout at Santa Fe College in Gainesville.
