Baseball team defeats Palm Beach State for 11th win

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team picked up a win Monday night at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans defeated Palm Beach State College 6-2 to pick up their 11th win of the season.

Starting pitcher Michael Benedict tossed five strong innings, allowing two unearned runs and struck out five for the win. Parker Trowbridge and Josh Lanum each threw two shutout innings in the victory.

Kevin Smith singled in the first inning and scored on Jason Mack's single. Mack scored on Shane Thomas' single to make it 2-0. Palm Beach took advantage of a couple of errors to tie the game 2-2 in the second inning.

Eastern Florida State College scored twice in the bottom of the second inning as Pryce Pax reached on an error and scored while Kevin Smith singled and scored as well to give the Titans a 4-2 lead.

The Titans would add runs in the fifth and eighth inning. Defensively they turned three double plays in the game.

Smith and Shane Thomas each finished with four hits in the game. Ethan Askin walked three times and had an RBI single.

Eastern Florida State College will open a series against the College of Central Florida beginning Thursday at Bruce Bochy Field. Game 1 will be at Bruce Bochy Field and begin at 5 p.m. Thursday with the Titans heading to Ocala for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
