Baseball team cruises in final home game of regular season

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team dominated the final home game of the season that was shown on WEFS-TV Thursday.

The Titans defeated Miami Dade College 14-6 in a Citrus Conference game to improve to 15-16 in the Citrus Conference.

Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, Eastern Florida State College scored eight times in the inning against Miami Dade ace Juan Miguel Fernandez.

Luke Lambert led off the inning with an infield single and then Fernandez walked the next three as the Titans scored the first run of the day. Then Kevin Smith stepped up to the plate and hit the first pitch to the wall in right-center field, scoring all three runners on base. Lambert would come back up in the inning and hit a two-run single.

Up 8-3, the Titans would add a run in the fifth inning on a Carlos Cordero RBI single and put the game away in the sixth as Smith came to the plate once again with the bases loaded and once again came up big with another three-run triple. He would later score on Cordero's RBI single.

Cordero finished with four hits while Smith and Lambert each had three hits.

Rhys Francis picked up the win in relief.

Eastern Florida State College is now just two games out of the final playoff spot with two games left in the season. The Titans will head to Miami for the conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
