Baseball team loses series opener at Polk State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team dropped the first game of the series against Polk State College.

The Titans bullpen faltered as Polk State College scored eight runs in the final two innings to claim the 13-5 victory. The teams will meet for a doubleheader at Bruce Bochy Field Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

On Thursday, Carlos Cordero led off the game with a home run and the Titans loaded the bases but could not strike for more runs. Polk State College answered in the bottom of the first inning as Liam O'Neil hit the first of his two home runs in the game, a grand slam.

Eastern Florida State College would get within a run, scoring twice in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. But Polk State would open things up late in the game to win the opener.

Hector Mangual had three hits and drove in two runs while teammate Jeff Davis also had three hits. Cordero finished with two hits, scoring three times and drove in two.

Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and admission is free to games at Bruce Bochy Field. You can watch the games online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
