Baseball team splits Saturday, wins series against Florida Southwestern

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team picked up a big series win against Florida Southwestern State College Saturday at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans defeated Florida Southwestern 9-1 in the first game and then lost the second game 15-6 to win the series against the first-place Bucs.

After winning on Thursday, the Titans came out and scored twice in the first inning and then four more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. They would add a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to post the 9-1 win.

Kenneth Robinson picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings and struck out seven.

Offensively, the Titans had 12 hits in the game as Carlos Cordero, Ryan Cerrone, Hector Mangual, Adrian Dominguez and Luke Lambert each had two hits.

In Game 2, the Titans lost a slug fest with Florida Southwestern as Eastern Florida State College trailed 4-0 after three innings. They would rally back with four runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5, but that was as close as they would get. The game would have 25 hits as Cerrone, Mangual and Lambert each had two hits again in the second game.

Eastern Florida State College is now 8-10 in the Citrus Conference and will begin a three-game series against St. Petersburg College on Thursday. The first game will be at St. Petersburg College at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday at Bruce Bochy Filed beginning at 1 p.m.
