Baseball team hosts Florida Southwestern Friday

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team will be back at Bruce Bochy Field Friday evening for a Southern Conference game.

The Titans will host Florida Southwestern on Friday and Saturday with Friday's game beginning at 6 p.m. and Saturday's game at 2 p.m. on the Melbourne campus.

Florida Southwestern, who is 9-6 in the conference, took two of three in the first series but the Titans won the lone game at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans will send starting pitcher KC Swords to the mound against the Bucs Friday. Swords is coming off a strong outing against Indian River State College as he allowed one earned run in six innings, striking out eight.

Florida Southwestern comes into the weekend series with some of the best power hitters in Region VIII as both AJ Shaver and Derek Williams each have 14 home runs. Shaver is hitting .382 and has an 11-game hitting streak while Williams has driven in 58 runs this season and is hitting .338.

Carlos Cordero leads the Titans offensively as the infielder is hitting .371 this season with 24 stolen bases which is tied for second in Region VIII. The Titans are leading the state in stolen bases with 110 this season.
