Baseball team gets shut out against Indian River State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team was shutout for just the second time this season Friday at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans fell to Indian River State College in the second game of the series, 4-0.

Starting pitcher KC Swords allowed a run but struck out three in the top of the first inning and went on to toss six strong innings, allowing two runs. In the sixth inning, Indian River State College loaded the bases with one out, but Swords would strike out the next two batters to end the threat and his night.

Indian River State College would load the bases again in the seventh inning and it looked like they may extend the lead but Zach Taylor made a nice diving catch to keep the Pioneers lead to 2-0.

Eastern Florida State College struggled against CJ Hansen who tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and struck out five.

Adrian Dominguez finished with two of the three hits for the Titans who fell to 19-22 overall and 3-11 in the Southern Conference.

Before Friday's game the baseball program recognized the women's basketball team who won the Region VIII Tournament for the first time in program history, winning a program-best 33 games. Head coach MJ Baker threw out the first pitch.

The Titans will travel to Indian River State College for the final game of the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
