Baseball team falls in ninth inning on the road

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost in the bottom of the ninth inning on the road Wednesday in the first game of a three-game series with Indian River State College.

The Titans tied the game in the top of the ninth inning before giving up the winning run in the bottom of the inning to fall 6-5.

Wilfredo Maldonado led off the game with a double and Dalton Robinson was hit by a pitch to lead things off. Maldonado scored on a wild pitch and Robinson would later score as the Titans would leave two men on in the inning.

Indian River State College would take a commanding lead after an error led to five runs.

The Titans would cut it to 5-3 in the second inning as Ryne Wallace doubled and scored on Maldonado's single.

In the fifth inning the Titans cut the lead to 5-4 when Zach Taylor walked and scored on Eddiel Tolentino's double.

Down 5-4 in the ninth inning, Robinson led off the inning with a single, stole second base and would later score to tie the game.

Robinson struck out 12 hitters in 7 1/3 innings of work and also scored twice. Maldonado finished with three hits in the game while Tolentino and Wallace each had two hits.

The Titans will host Indian River State College in the second game of the series Friday night at 6 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field. Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will be honored before the game and it is Little League night at Bruce Bochy Field.
