Baseball finishes weekend 2-2 against East Georgia State

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team split a doubleheader against East Georgia State College Saturday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans lost the first game 3-2 but bounced back to win Game 2 8-3 and split the weekend series 2-2 with East Georgia State College and are 11-11 on the season.

In the first game, starting pitcher KC Swords got off to a fast start, striking out five in the first two innings and after three innings, the Titans held a 2-0 lead as Zach Taylor had an RBI single and then Matt Merk drive in a run on a sacrifice bunt in the first inning.

East Georgia State College would tie the game in the fourth inning as Thomas Lee Saxon hit an RBI double and then Noah Burke tied the game with an RBI single.

The Bobcats would take the lead in the fifth inning as Landry Mead doubled and scored on Zach Kiatkowski's single.

With the lead, East Georgia State College starting pitcher Jayden Lopez had one of his best outingsd of the season, striking out 12 hitters in the complete game win.

But the Titans would get even in Game 2 as Eddiel Tolentino drove in Wilfredo Maldanado who walked and stole second and third.

Up 1-0, Eastern Florida State College would add to the lead in the second inning as Gavin Zieglar ripped a two-run double to give the Titans a 3-0 lead.

East Georgia State College would tie the game in the top of the fourth inning as Jahkari Howard hit a three-run home run to left field.

It would not stay tied long as Maldanado hit an RBI single, scoring Gabriel Cruz and then later in the inning Don McKnight hit a two-run single to make it 6-3. Cruz would hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth and then Zach Taylor would score in the sixth to make it 8-3.

Eastern Florida State College will host Webber University JV at 6 p.m. Monday in the final game before the Southern Conference season begins Wednesday.
