Baseball team splits with East Georgia State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team split a doubleheader with East Georgia State College Friday evening at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans remained .500 at 10-10, losing Game 1 3-2 but coming back to win Game 2 10-7.

In Game 1, Anthony Cordero took over in the first inning with two runners on and one out and got the double play ball that left East Georgia State College scoring just the one run.

Cordero would strike out four in the next 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. The Titans would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Gabriel Cruz came up with a big two-out single that scored Eddiel Tolentino.

Eastern Florida State College had a chance to score in the fifth inning when they would load the bases but could not get the run home.

East Georgia State College would take advantage of Matt Dadlani's wildness in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Titans would cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Cruz would single and score Dalton Robinson's RBI single.

Eastern Florida State College would threaten in the seventh, but East Georgia State College's Landry Mead got out of the jam for the complete game win.

In Game 2 the Bobcats would score runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead but the Titans would strike in the bottom of the third inning as Tolentino has an RBI single and then Don McKnight ripped a triple to the wall that scored both Zach Taylor and Tolentino.

The game would not stay tied for long as Eastern Florida State College would bat around in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring seven runs.

East Georgia State College would cut the lead to 10-6 on a three-run home run by Johnkeanu Perez in the sixth inning. They would add one run in the seventh inning, but Cordero would come in and shut the door for the save.

Eastern Florida State College will host East Georgia State College for another doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon at Bruce Bochy Field.
