Baseball team tops South Florida State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated South Florida State College to stay alive in the race for a spot in the state tournament.

The Titans defeated the Panthers 10-7 on Friday evening to pull within a game of Indian River State College for second place in the Southern Conference.

The Panthers scored twice in the top of the first but the Titans bounced right back as Jason Blackstone hit his fourth home run of the season and then Dalton Robinson and Jesus Santana would both score to gve the Titans a 3-2 lead after one inning.

Don McKnight would walk and score on Blackstone's RBI single to give the Titans a 4-2 lead. It would grow to 5-1 in the third inning.

Meanwhile starting pitcher KC Swords pitched well again as he went six solid innings, striking out eight for the win.

The bottom of the fourth inning saw the Titans open things up, scoring four times in the inning to give the Titans an 9-2 lead. The Pantehrs scored twice in the fifth and three more in the seventh to cut the Titans lead to 9-7.

Jackson Woodward tossed a scoreless eighth inning and the Titans would score one final run in the bottom of the eighth as Ryne Wallace singled and would later score.

The Pantehrs would load the bases in the top of the ninth inning but Woodward would strike out the next three batters to lock up the save.

The Titans will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Miami Dade for a 1 p.m. conference game.
