Baseball team hits road for key conference game

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team heads on the road to play Indian River State College Wednesday afternoon in a must-win game.

The Titans are two back with three to play for second place in the Southern Conference with the top two teams heading to the state tournament.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Lawnwood Sports Complex for the seventh meeting of the season between Indian River State College and the Titans. The teams are 3-3 in the first six meetings, leaving Wednesday afternoon's game as an important one for both teams.

Indian River State College comes into the matchup 8-10 in the conference and in second place after sweeping South Florida State College last weekend. The Titans are 6-12 after taking one of three to first-place Miami Dade College.

Freshman Trey Jackson will get the start for EFSC on Wednesday. The Melbourne native is coming off a strong start against Miami Dade College, tossing nine innings, allowing two runs and struck out six. For the season, Jackson is 1-1 in 19 appearances with a 2.64 ERA and has 44 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

Dalton Robinson is still leading Region 8 in stolen bases with 27 on the season while teammate Gabriel Cruz has 21 heading into the final three games of the regular season.

Wednesday's game will begin at 2 p.m. at Lawnwood Sports Complex in Fort Pierce. Admission is free to the game.
