Baseball team falls to South Florida State College in 10 innings

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team fell in extra innings Saturday afternoon in a Southern Conference game at Bruce Bochy Field.

Down 3-2 in the ninth inning, Ridge Skarbek had a strong inning to keep the Titans in the game and then Don McKnight led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

But the Titans could not win the game in the ninth inning.

South Florida State College would lead off the 10th inning with a Hunter Wilder double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Reid Lisle's single.

The 4-3 loss in 10 innings put the Titans behind South Florida State College and Indian River State College in the race for a postseason berth.

Eastern Florida State College starting pitcher Dylan Dieguez tossed six solid innings, allowing three runs and striking out four.

Drew Cavanaugh got the Titans on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single that scored Gabriel Cruz who had singled. Ivan Zambrano hit his third home run of the season in the second inning to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

But South Florida State College would tie the game in the third inning.

Eastern Florida State College, which fell to 21-23-1 overall and 5-10 in the conference, will host conference leader Miami Dade College at Bruce Bochy Field at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
