Baseball team picks up win against Seminole State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Seminole State College to get back into the win column Wednesday night at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning as Jonathan Hubbard hit a two-run single. They would add another run in the second inning as Kyle Dentmon drove in Connor Leary to make it 3-0.

That was more than enough for Jackson Woodward, who was stellar in his first start for the Titans. The Titusville native tossed four shutout innings, striking out seven to earn his first win of the season.

The Titans would add another run in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Dominic Baratta relieved Woodward and dominated for 2 1/3 innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh inning as the Raiders hit a single, a double and a walk. Rafael Acosta would get out of the jam but the Raiders plated two runs to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Titan offense would make it 5-2 on a Tyler Isenberg RBI single.

Zack Kornich came in for the eighth inning and after allowing the first two to reach, he retired the next three hitters. He would have a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his second save.

Dentmon and Hubbard each drove in two runs and Leary scored twice in the win.

The baseball team will travel to Lake Sumter State College on Friday for a 3 p.m. game before returning to Bruce Bochy Field Saturday for a 1 p.m. game with the College of Central Florida.
