Baseball team tops Polk State College in 10 innings

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team scored in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Polk State College 4-3 Friday night at Bruce Bochy Field.

Freshman Connor Leary walked and scored on a passed ball with one out in the bottom of the 10th. Leary scored twice in the game and has now scored six times in five games this season.  

Down 2-1 after two innings the Titans pitching staff allowed just two hits and one run over the next eight innings as Tyler Vogel tossed four solid innings, allowing the unearned run in the seventh inning. 

Freshman Zack Kornick improved to 2-1 on the season with two shutout innings, striking out two.

Down 3-2 in the eighth inning, sophomore Alejandro Rodriguez scored when a ball got past the catcher to tie things up. Offensively the Titans walked eight times and three of those ended up scoring.

Freshman Kyle Dentmon went 2-for-4 in the game.

The win was the third straight for the 3-2 Titans who will travel to Tallahassee for two games over the weekend. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the teams meeting again on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Titans will be back at Bruce Bochy Field next Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Seminole State College.
