Baseball team falls to Palm Beach State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost a Southern Conference game against Palm Beach State College 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.

Titans starting pitcher Raynieri De Los Santos Disla retired the first 10 batters he faced but Palm Beach State broke through in the top of the fourth inning with two runs.

Elian Merejo cut the lead in half when he crushed a Zach Zientarski pitch over the left-field wall for his seventh home run of the season.

Palm Beach State scored three more times in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead and once again the Titans fought back with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Titans had a chance to cut into the lead in the sixth inning with the bases loaded but Dylan Espinal hit a bullet to third base that ended in a double play.

Merejo finished with three hits and drove in both runs while Cristian Sanjurjo and Alvaro Valdez each finished with two hits.

The Titans (22-21, 6-15) will travel to Palm Beach State for Game 2 of the series on Friday and then host the Panthers in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is at noon at Bruce Bochy Field and admission is free.
