Baseball team picks up 8-2 win against Seminole State

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Seminole State College 8-2 at Bruce Bochy Field on Monday night.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Rodriguez pitched six strong innings, allowing just one hit and struck out seven in his first start of the season.

"I felt great, all Fall and spring I had this mentality where I just needed to come out and show what I could do. I had an OK freshman year, but coming into this year I have matured and I knew that I could be better," Rodriguez said.

Three relievers combined for three shutout innings including Tim Luth striking out the side in the ninth inning.

"We are definitely pitching well, we prepared. We prepared all fall for this and we are coming out and showing that we can be contenders," Rodriguez said.

Offensively the Titans had 12 hits in the game, led by leadoff hitter Norberto Navarro and Jacob McFadden who each had three hits. Navarro scored three times for the 2-1 Titans.

"Our offense is our strength, we have some work to do on defense and it needs to get better but we will keep working on it and we just have to move forward, quality pitching, some timely hitting and better defense, Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Jeff Tam said.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Seminole State on Wednesday before returning to Bruce Bochy Field on Friday to face Elev8 at 3 p.m.
