Titans Fall 5-4 at Miami Dade

Eastern Florida's baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision to Miami Dade College in Kendall on Friday allowing the Sharks to climb to within one game of first place in the FCSAA Southern Conference.

The defeat dropped the first-place Titans to 16-9 in the conference while Miami Dade improved to 15-10.

The teams meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus. Admission is free.

Starting pitcher Daniel Garmendia threw 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball for the Titans before giving way to the bullpen.

"Garmendia had a great start," Titans head coach Jeff Tam said.

Reliever Tim Luth took the loss.

The Titans had eight hits to nine for Miami Dade. The Titans had one error to two for the Sharks.

The Titans close the regular season with a Tuesday-Wednesday home-and-home with fourth-place Palm Beach State, the first game in Lake Worth and finale on Wednesday at Bruce Bochy Field.

The game will be telecast live on WEFS-TV and streamed at www.efsctitans.com.

The top two finishers in conference advance to the NJCAA District/FCSAA Tournament in Lakeland in May. The third-place team faces a play-in game.
