Titans win another thriller as Walsh, Garmendia combine on 1-hitter

Great pitching and clutch hitting … it doesn't get better than that.

Especially when you get rewarded with a couple of thrilling victories.

That was the case for the Eastern Florida State College baseball team this weekend.

The Titans defeated Miami Dade Community College 1-0 at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus Saturday. Just a night earlier, EFSC pulled out a 3-2, 10-inning victory over the Sharks.

Sophomore right-handers Jacob Walsh and Daniel Garmendia combined on a one-hit shutout Saturday.

Walsh allowed one hit while striking out six over five innings. Garmendia then came on to pitch the final four innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit.

Ian Lisle hit a two-out single in the second inning that was followed by an RBI double from Ruben Garcia to give the Titans the game's only run

EFSC is now 24-10 overall and 10-5 in the Southern Conference.

"Guys did a great job all around," Titans coach Jeff Tam said. "We had great pitching and defense. That will win you a lot of baseball games. Had some timely hits.

"Just need to keep working on the little things. The guys earned these two wins."

EFSC returns to action on Tuesday when the Titans visit Palm Beach State College at 5 p.m.

The two teams will play again on Wednesday at 5 p.m at Bruce Bochy Field in a game that will be televised on WEFS-TV and will also be Webcast. Admission is free.
