EFSC sports programs wrap up successful year

It was another successful athletic season for the Eastern Florida State College sports teams as five of the 11 teams reached NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournaments, with all 11 reaching the postseason.

All five of the teams making the national tournament finished in the top seven in the nation.

The women's soccer team made it to the semifinals of the national tournament for the second straight season, falling to Tyler Junior College in the semifinals. The women's soccer team went 16-3-1 overall and won the Region 8 Conference title for the eighth time. It was the seventh straight trip to the national tournament for the Titans after winning the Southeast District title.

The men's soccer team also reached the national tournament semifinals, falling to Barton Community College in the semifinals. It was the third trip to the national tournament for the men's soccer program, who finished the season 15-5-1 and won the Southeast District title to advance to the national tournament. The men's soccer team won the Region 8 Conference title for the second straight season.

The men's basketball team reached the Elite Eight of the national tournament for the third straight season, falling in the quarterfinals. The men's basketball team went 28-8 on the season and won its second straight Mid-Florida Conference championship and has won seventh straight conference titles.

The men's golf team hosted the national tournament, placing in a tie for seventh place in the tournament held at Duran Golf Club. The team won the District 4 title to lock up a spot in the national tournament for the 17th straight season.

The men's tennis team reached the national tournament for the second straight season and tied for fourth place overall, the highest finish in program history. The No. 3 doubles team of Fabricio Galvan and Sebastian Bunster won the consolation finals at the national tournament, the first in program history.

The program also had seven players named All-American – men's golfer Beck Fox (second team), men's soccer players Rhys Myers (first team), Moussa Gueye (second team), Nour Moaoui (second team), women's soccer players Beatrice Gards (first team), Cristina Garriga (second team), Morgan Miller (second team).

Overall, nine of the 11 programs posted winning records and 95 percent of the sophomore athletes will be moving on to four-year schools in the Fall.
