Smith, Sweeney Share Student-Athlete of Week Honor

Softball player Karli Smith and men's golfer Kerry Sweeney are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 1.

Smith drove in all four runs the Titans scored in two losses in the NJCAA District/FCSAA Tournament on Friday. Smith hit a three-run home run against Gulf Coast State in a 5-4 defeat and a run-scoring double in a 3-1 loss to Florida State College Jacksonville.

Smith, a freshman from Miami and Florida Christian School also pitched four scoreless innings of relief against FSCJ, allowing just two hits.

Sweeney, a sophomore from Melbourne, Florida and Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, finished tied for second in the NJCAA District 4 Tournament, his best finish of the spring. The Titans won the tournament for the third time in the last four seasons and the sixth time in the last 14, earning their 14^th consecutive trip to the NJCAA national championship tournament.
