Tennis, Baseball, Softball Players Share Student-Athlete of Week Honors
Women's tennis player Ann-Kathrin Zilles, baseball player Blair Calvo and softball players Hannah Roberts and Karli Smith are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 27.
Zilles, a freshman from Friedrichshafen, Germany, won her 10th consecutive singles match when she defeated Maria Zubkova 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles in the Titans 6-3 loss to State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota.
It was the only win on the court for the Titans, who won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.
EFSC is 10-8 overall and 4-7 in NJCAA Region 8.
Calvo, a sophomore right-hander from St. Augustine, Florida and Nease High, turned in a brilliant pitching performance as the Titans defeated Miami-Dade College 3-2.
Calvo took a no-hitter into the top of the ninth inning before giving up a lead-off single. He struck out 10 and gave up just the one hit over 8 2/3 innings.
Calvo is 5-0 in 10 games. He has a 1.39 earned run average and 60 strikeouts, ranking him 11th nationally in both categories.
Roberts, a sophomore infielder from Palm Harbor, Florida and East Lake High, went 7-for-17 with six RBIs and four extra base hits with a .412 average for week.
Smith, a freshman from Miami, Florida and Florida Christian School, went 5-for-14 with eight RBIs and three extra base hits with a .357 average for week.
